Spotlight on ocean innovation in St. John’s.

A spotlight interview series on opportunities in the ocean innovation in St. John’s has just launched. This series is part of a wider Canadian Investment Attraction series and was made possible by our partnership with Invest in Canada and TheFutureEconomy.ca.

The interview series features:

Danny Breen, Mayor of the City of St. John’s

Dr. Vianne Timmons, President & Vice Chancellor – Memorial University

Dr. David Murrin – Director-General, National Research Council, Ocean, Coastal and River Engineering Research Centre

Caron Hawco – President, Caron Hawco Group

Mike Maguire – Chair of the Board, OceansAdvance

Our distinguished panel of interviewees articulate why St. John’s has an incredible ocean economy ecosystem with limitless potential. As Mayor Breen outlines, “In St. John’s, researchers and developers have the opportunity to develop their products and test them in the harsh environments of the North Atlantic”.

St. John’s has a talented workforce with a history of innovation, world-class research and training facilities, some of the best academic institutions for ocean studies and private sector companies who are leading the world in technology and innovation in this field.

We know we’re an ocean city powerhouse, and through this partnership we aim to tell our story to the world and make sure St. John’s is on all potential investor’s radar.

Earlier this month, Memorial University was again ranked the top university in Canada for the study of marine/ocean engineering. Globally, it placed 37 out of the top 50 universities. This further emphasizes the prevalent ecosystem our city is developing and being recognized around the world for.
