Advantage St. John’s Inc. is the region’s economic development agency established by the City of St. John’s, the Town of Conception Bay South and the Town of Paradise. Its mission is to amplify economic growth by enhancing investment, business and talent attraction opportunities in Newfoundland and Labrador’s capital region.

Advantage St. John’s is accepting applications from individuals who wish to apply for a position on the inaugural Advantage St. John’s Board of Directors. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of the regional economic development agency. Advantage St. John’s has five volunteer board position (5) vacancies to be filled; three (3) for a two (2) year term, and two (2) for a three (3) year term.

Advantage St. John’s Board of Directors Responsibilities

  • Engage in strategic planning, oversee its development and execution as well as evaluate its delivery.
  • Provide fiduciary responsibility by ensuring appropriate use of funds and ensuring proper reporting mechanisms are established.
  • Evaluate the performance of the Chief Executive Officer and manage the hiring process for a new CEO should the need arise.
  • Provide oversight of the corporation: oversee financial management, minimize exposure to risk and monitor the success of programs.

Previous governance experience with an ICD.D designation or similar would be considered an asset. Individuals with a background in international marketing, storytelling, accounting, finance, legal, investment attraction and/or business retention and expansion would be considered strong assets.

  • have a strong interest in working on the advancement of the corporation,
  • help the board exercise proper stewardship of the corporation,
  • act morally and ethically in accordance with the corporation’s values,
  • accept accountability for group decisions so that the board of directors speaks with “one voice”, and
  • maintain confidentiality.
